- General Motors (NYSE:GM) is closing its manufacturing facilities in Columbia and Ecuador as diminished sales and minimum production at the two factories encouraged the carmaker towards the strategic decision.
- The Colmotores plant in Columbia and OBB in Ecuador are only operating at 9% and 13% capacity, respectively, with the Colmotores plant already winding down operations. EBB will end all activities by August.
- GM (GM) dealerships will remain as the company said it will maintain its commitment to both countries.
- In South and Central America, Mexico accounts for the majority of auto manufacturing at 4.0M vehicles as of the end of 2023, followed by Brazil with $2.3M cars produced. Argentina makes a third of the cars produced in Brazil.
