3 Birmingham men killed in shootings over the weekend


Authorities are investigating three homicides after three shootings in the Birmingham area over the weekend. Learn more in the video above.GATE CITY SHOOTINGThe first shooting occurred Saturday afternoon in the Gate City public housing complex in the Woodlawn area of Birmingham. The Birmingham Police Department said officers responded to a report of a person shot in the 7500 block of 67th Courtway South at about 4:45 p.m. Upon arriving, officers found a man in an alley suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to UAB Hospital, where he died shortly after arriving. The victim has since been identified as 43-year-old Morrion Hamilton of Birmingham. Police believe Hamilton was shot during an argument with another person, who fled the scene in an unknown vehicle and is still at large.—PARKWAY EAST SHOOTINGOn Sunday, a 24-year-old Birmingham man and two others, ages 17 and 21, were shot in the 200 block of Beacon Parkway East at about 10:25 p.m. The deceased victim has been identified as Frankie Keonta McDonald. Birmingham police released this statement on Monday:”At approximately 10:30 p.m., officers from South Precinct responded to a shots fired call at 1237 Beacon Parkway East at the High Point Apartment Complex. Upon arrival officers heard multiple gunshots and encountered a large group of people running from the pool area. Officers encountered the victim Frankie Keonte McDonald in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound as multiple people attempted to render aid. McDonald was transported to a local area hospital where he succumb to his injuries. Officers later discovered two other gunshot victims (Ages 17 and 21) were transported to local hospitals from the incident location by private vehicle. Their injuries were non-life threatening.”The preliminary investigation indicates several people were attending a pool party and an altercation ensued amongst a resident and party goers leading to the resident retrieving a weapon. Ultimately several shots were fired. Officers responded and encountered the suspect armed with a rifle. During the encounter an officer discharged a firearm; however, the suspect was not struck nor was there other injuries resulting from the officer’s discharge. The suspect fled into a nearby apartment and was taken into custody. The officer-involved shooting investigation will be conducted by the Birmingham Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division.”—MIDFIELD SHOOTINGThe third shooting occurred at about 11 p.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of 8th Avenue in Midfield. The coroner said 22-year-old Qra’Vonta Arquise Smith died at the scene from a gunshot wound following a domestic dispute.
