A suspect is in custody after reportedly threatening at least one Alabama law enforcement agency.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Morgan and Limestone sheriff’s office, and Priceville and Decatur police responded Sunday night to the scene on I-65 just south of the Tennessee River Bridge.
According to Sgt. Jeremy Burkett with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, both the northbound and southbound lanes of the interstate at the 335-mile marker in Morgan County were closed.
Burkett said traffic was being diverted onto U.S. 31.
The ordeal began earlier in the day when authorities learned of a threat to the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office. Law enforcement began tracking the possible suspect throughout Alabama, beginning somewhere near Enterprise.
About 8 p.m., ALEA was able to “intercept” the suspect on I-65 with a traffic stop, said Morgan County sheriff’s spokesman Mike Swafford.
A suspect was taken into custody but because the threat involved explosives. Bomb investigators and SWAT officers responded to the scene.
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office said while the scene is still active, there is no threat to the public.
Traffic reopened just before 9:30 p.m. No additional details have been released.
