Teen critically injured in gunfire that also wounded 3 others at Alabama town’s block party

A 15-year-old was critically wounded in a Saturday-night shooting in Tallapoosa County that also left three other people injured.

Sheriff Jimmy Abbett on Sunday said the gunfire erupted at 8:45 p.m. in the town of Jacksons’ Gap. The sheriff said it happened at a large event called Gap Day – similar to a block party – on Manoy Drive.

The shots wounded four people. Three of those victims sustained minor injuries.

The 15-year-old, whose identity has not been released, was taken to Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham where he remains critical.

Additional details have not been released, but Abbett said 25-year-old Markellis Keshawn Crayton, of Dadeville, was arrested in connection with the shootings.

Crayton is charged with four counts of first-degree assault. He is being held in the Tallapoosa County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.

The investigation is ongoing.
