Ben Rathbun, a 52-year-old Michigan man, was introduced to 90 Day Fiancé during 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 5, as 22-year-old Mahogany Roca’s boyfriend. Ben was raised in a strict church that he believed was cult-like, where he later became a youth pastor. He married his church’s children’s ministry partner Lisa, and they were together for 24 years, during which they had four children. Seven years before his 90DF stint, Ben left the cult to try and work on his marriage. However, counseling didn’t save it, which is why he filed for divorce.
Before Mahogany, 90 Day Fiancé star Ben was engaged to a 27-year-old woman that he was with for three years, but she didn’t accept his children. Following their split, Ben was single for a year and a half, and then he met Mahogany. She approached him on social media after seeing his shirtless modeling photos. He sent her $1000, even though she refused to do any video calls with him. When Ben was revealed as a 90 Day Fiancé cast member, the show made it look like he worked as a fitness model to make a living. However, Ben later told his Instagram followers (his account is currently set to private) that he was the Director of the Michigan Lupus Foundation. “My ears are too big, my nose is crooked, I’ve got a droopy eye, my arms are too long,” Ben had joked, explaining why he would never be a model. He used to run a website called Benjamin Sage, where he promoted a, “Fountain of Youth” program.
In 2022, 90 Day Fiancé’s Ben announced that he was launching a new business called, “Starting Today Fitness,” to provide clients with an individualized health guide and journal. The program also included personalized videos of encouragement from Ben, along with daily affirmations and positive messages. In June 2022, Ben began working as a content writer for a motorcycle magazine, but hasn’t added updates on his job status since then.
90 Day Fiancé Star Ben Rathbun’s Arrest
In March 2022, it was reported that Ben had been apprehended in Michigan for a probation violation. His arrest stemmed from a 2020 arrest for OWAI (operating while ability-impaired), for which he was sentenced to 18 months of probation. The same month, 90 Day Fiancé cast member Ben was fired from his Michigan Lupus Foundation job. Ben later claimed that it was because it was falsely reported that he had been picked up late at night for drunk driving.
Ben did admit that he had committed a crime, and hid it from his workplace and family. According to Ben, in September 2020, a homeless couple living at a Red Roof Inn offered him a plastic cup of wine, which was spiked. He drank it, and claimed that he couldn’t remember the next 24 hours. When he attempted to drive the next day, Ben hit the curb. A blood test was administered by the police, which detected flubromazolam in 90 Day Fiancé star Ben’s system.
Are 90 Day Fiancé Couple Ben & Mahogany Still Together In 2023
The 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 5 Tell-All left many questions unanswered about Ben and Mahogany’s relationship status. However, Ben and Mahogany announced their engagement in August 2022, despite their language differences, trust issues, and the 28-year age gap. In January 2023, Mahogany did an Instagram LIVE (her IG is now deactivated) with Ben from Miraflores, Peru, where she currently lives, to confirm that they are still together.
Later this month, Mahogany told a fan about her plans to come to the U.S. in the New Year, or in the summer of 2023, suggesting that she and Ben could be a part of 90 Day Fiancé season 10. A photo of Ben’s left hand, which was posted on Mahogany’s IG feed, shows a wedding band on his ring finger. This raised suspicions that they were married, but Mahogany said that they’d tie the knot soon, when quizzed about their relationship status on her IG stories.
