Although season 3 of The Boys saw Homelander reign supreme and escape from Butcher’s plot to kill him, there are still multiple characters in the show that could bring him down with their powers. Throughout the show, Homelander has been the central villain that’s causing trouble for both Vought and The Boys, with most of the other heroes eventually seeing his true colors and taking a stand against him. Many of them came close to bringing him down, with certain heroes even standing their own in one-to-one combat, but he’s ultimately gotten lucky each time and managed to escape.
But Homelander’s luck can’t last forever, and the character’s days grow more and more numbered with each Supe that’s brave enough to take a stand against him. It’s only a matter of time before somebody comes along that Homelander just isn’t strong enough to beat, with his growing arrogance clouding his judgment and making his decisions flawed. Season 3 saw the beginning of this power-hungry arc for Homelander, murdering characters like Supersonic and Black Noir in cold blood just because he could – but it won’t be long before he goes too far and picks a fight that he can’t win.
Soldier Boy
Soldier Boy is the obvious pick for a Supe that could bring down Homelander, as he’s the one that was recruited by Butcher in The Boys’ third season for that exact task. The only reason that he was unsuccessful in the end was because of his inability to control his own powers, which led to a deadly explosion at Vought Towers, culminating in his capture and sedation by Grace Mallory. But if Soldier Boy can return in season 4 and learn to harness his own strength, Homelander would be in serious trouble.
Starlight
Starlight is one of the few remaining superheroes that’s seen Homelander’s power first-hand and lived to tell the tale. She’s the only remaining member of The Seven (though she’s officially left) that’s brave enough to stand against Homelander, and one particular moment in the season 3 finale suggests that she might be able to overpower him in the future. During that final battle at Vought Towers, Starlight’s powers grew even stronger than ever before, hinting at an untapped potential that she could use to bring Homelander down and reform The Seven from the inside.
Marie Moreau
Marie Moreau is a character that doesn’t actually appear in The Boys, but she’s one of the protagonists in the show’s upcoming spin-off series Gen V. It’s unknown exactly how strong the character is going to be, but her superpowers seem to involve both the manipulation of blood (she can project her own blood from her body in the form of tendrils) and an enhanced healing factor, both of which could be deadly in the right situation. She’s much younger than Homelander, but Gen V could definitely be setting her up as the one that will ultimately bring him down.
Victoria Neuman
Of all the superpowers shown in The Boys, Victoria Neuman’s might be the deadliest and most violent – known as the ‘Head Popper’, she’s capable of exploding her enemies’ heads with her mind. She’s already killed several people in the show, including Susan Raynor and Jonah Vogelbaum, though it’s never been explained whether the power would work on Homelander or not. However, one brief moment at the end of season 3 seems to suggest that her powers are still effective against Supes – after exposing her true identity to Starlight, she uses her molecular combustion to give her a nosebleed. It’s just a threat, but it proves that Supes aren’t beyond reach.
Billy Butcher
Season 3 of The Boys featured a major twist by introducing Temp V, a temporary form of Compound V that wears off after 24 hours. Billy Butcher was the first to test out the drug, which he used to murder Gunpower during his search for Soldier Boy. During the scene, Butcher displayed absolute invulnerability that allowed him to bring down Gunpowder without too much of a fight. His powers also gave him the upper hand against Homelander twice, both at Herogasm and Vought Towers – where he was distracted both times. It’s possible that under the right conditions, Butcher would be totally invulnerable to Homelander’s powers and manage to kill him.
Queen Maeve
Although it’s possible that Maeve won’t return for The Boys season 4 after finding herself depowered at the end of season 3, her return could cause some serious trouble for Homelander. After finally standing up to Homelander in that final battle, Maeve was the only one strong enough to actually make the seemingly indestructible Supe bleed. If Soldier Boy hadn’t lost control and blown up the building, it’s possible that she could’ve gone on to actually kill him. And losing her powers isn’t a big deal – the same thing happened to Kimiko earlier in the series, and she regained them fairly easily with a dose of Compound V.
A-Train
A-Train is one of The Seven’s most interesting and complex characters, stuck in a position where he’s both unable to stand up to Homelander and unwilling to play along with Vought’s games. However, now that Vought has replaced his faulty heart and replenished his powers, it’s possible that A-Train will be strong enough to break free of Homelander’s control and join The Boys in their quest to bring him down. For the longest time, the character has been stuck between his hatred for Homelander and his fear of him, so being the one to finally kill him would be a fascinating end to his journey.
Kimiko
When she was first introduced in season 1, Kimiko was established as one of the most dangerous characters in The Boys – one of her kidnappers even killed himself instead of fighting her. She’s been involved in several deadly fights since then, even making a stand for herself against Stormfront in the season 2 finale. But it still feels like Kimiko hasn’t fully tapped into her potential yet, usually saving her super-strength for human targets. It’s unclear whether she’d be strong enough to actually kill Homelander, but her rapid healing abilities would certainly give her an edge.
Stan Edgar
Stan Edgar is one of the few characters that Homelander is afraid of in The Boys, and there might be good reason for that. Although he’s got no powers, and he’s no longer in control at Vought, it’s entirely possible that Stan Edgar has a backup plan that could bring Homelander down for good. A flashback scene in season 3 revealed that he’s been working for Vought since he was young, and he’s been involved in their operations ever since Homelander’s creation. It’s unlikely that Vought would create somebody as powerful as Homelander without a kind of failsafe that could stop him – and Edgar would know all about it.
Ryan Butcher
It would be a darkly poetic twist if Homelander’s own son was the one that ultimately brings him down, but The Boys seems to be hinting at that. The final scene of season 3 saw Ryan choose his father over Butcher for the first time, but that probably won’t last for long once Butcher returns and reminds him of his mother’s dying remarks that Ryan isn’t like his father at all, that he’s good. This could flip a switch in Ryan that makes him side with Butcher again and kill Homelander for good.
