The Whole Scoop on the Walmart Rewards Loyalty Program

Aug. 14 Update:

On July 20, Walmart very quietly announced that its loyalty program Walmart Rewards will be called “Walmart Cash.” It’s the same program, just under a new name and with the added ability to cash out in stores. Walmart says, “Over time, some of the components of Walmart Cash will expand to all customers, while additional ways to get Walmart Cash will remain exclusive to members, like Walmart+ Travel.”

If you thought your Walmart+ membership couldn’t possibly get any sweeter, we have important news for you. It really can get way sweeter — starting right now.

In August 2022, Walmart rolled out the Walmart Rewards loyalty program (now called Walmart Cash) exclusively for Walmart+ members. Walmart Cash is pretty straightforward and, most importantly, free with a Walmart+ membership. This is everything we know:

What Is Walmart Rewards?

Through Walmart’s loyalty program, Walmart+ members earn Walmart Rewards with purchases of specific grocery items, household essentials and pet care products, to name a few. The amount of rewards you earn varies by item, which makes Walmart’s rewards program a little different from other rewards programs that give you a flat amount per dollar spent.

Then, you can use these rewards on future Walmart purchases, both in stores and online. So, if you have $10 in Walmart Rewards, you basically get an additional $10 off your order. It’s that easy, although there are some restrictions to what products Walmart Rewards can be used on, so check that out before you apply your Rewards balance.

You have to be a Walmart+ member to get this perk, but you can get a 15-day free trial to test drive the Walmart+ membership before committing to the $12.95 monthly membership fee.

How To Get Walmart Rewards

After signing into your Walmart account online or through the Walmart app, look for products that currently qualify for Walmart Rewards from the reward center, search bar or product page. To save a reward to your account when shopping online, click “Add Reward” on the product, and when you’re in-store, use the Walmart app in-store mode to scan the barcode.

How To Redeem Walmart Rewards

After you’ve purchased the qualifying items, your rewards will show up within a few minutes and accumulate in your Walmart Wallet. Then you can redeem your Rewards in-store by scanning the Walmart Pay QR code and then selecting the “Use Walmart Rewards” option to deduct the Rewards balance from your purchase.

For online shoppers, tap “Apply Walmart Rewards” and then pay the remaining balance after the Rewards are applied. You can check your Walmart Rewards balance anytime.
