And much like the candy corn growing tall in the fields and animatronic skeletons emerging from hibernation, Spirit Halloween stores are reappearing for the year, too. From costumes and makeup to party supplies and Halloween home and yard decor, this popular seasonal retailer has everything you need to make October awesome. 

Before you buy, there are a few things to know about Spirit Halloween’s return policy, whether you’re shopping with them in person or online. Read on to learn the fine print and to see where Spirit Halloween stacks up compared to the stores with the best return policies – plus the official cutoff for Spirit Halloween returns.

What is Spirit Halloween’s Return Policy for Online Orders?

During the Halloween season, Spirit Halloween accepts online returns mailed to their return center as long as they are postmarked prior to Oct. 23, 2023. 

Spirit Halloween will accept your returns, the company states, so long as all your items are “unworn with the original accessories, are in new and resalable condition, and in the original packaging within 14 days of postdating on the package or receiving the package.” 

Does Spirit Halloween Offer Free Shipping for Returns? 

No. They do not offer free return shipping, nor will you be refunded for the original shipping charges you incurred when you made your purchase. 

What is Spirit Halloween’s Return Policy for In-Store Purchases? 

You can return your items with your receipt so long as you’re within 14 days of purchase to an in-person Spirit Halloween store. Just like returning to their online warehouse, anything you return must be unworn, new, in resalable condition, in its original packaging and with all original accessories. Take note of this schedule: 

  • You have until Oct. 23, 2023, to make any returns to Spirit Halloween stores. 
  • You can make exchanges from Oct. 23 to 26, 2023, “as long as the items are unworn, have the original accessories, are in new and resalable condition, and in the original packaging,” just like with a return. 
  • After Oct. 26, 2023 all sales become final.

Can You Return Your Online Order to a Spirit Halloween Store?

Yes! You can return online purchases to Spirit Halloween stores within 14 days of receiving your package. You’ll need a receipt, your items must be unworn and with all original accessories and in their original packaging, and still new and resellable. Take note of this schedule. 

  • You have until Oct. 23, 2023, to make any returns.
  • You can make exchanges from Oct. 23 to 26, 2023, “as long as the items are unworn, have the original accessories, are in new and resalable condition, and in the original packaging,” just like with a return. 
  • After Oct. 26, 2023 all sales become final.

How Long Does it Take to Receive Your Refund from Spirit Halloween? 

For online returns, Spirit Halloween will refund you within five to seven business days (meaning Monday-Friday, excluding holidays) from the date your returned product arrives at their warehouse. During the Halloween season, this process may take up to four weeks. 

If your return was made in a store, expect to see your refund hit your account between two and three business days after your return was made.

Can You Exchange Your Spirit Halloween Online Purchases?

It happens: you got the wrong size or color or style. No problem! Here’s what the retailer suggests for online exchanges. 

First, place a new order for the replacement item(s) you’d like so you can make sure they have what you want in stock.

Then, log in into your account (if you have one) or search by your order number to process your return and print your return slip. When you send back your package, Spirit Halloween suggests insuring your items and getting a tracking number, just to be safe. Shipping costs are not covered. 

Can You Exchange an Online Purchase In-Stores Instead? 

By all means, go for it if that’s easier for you. Spirit Halloween will accept exchanges up to Oct. 26, 2023. (After that date, online orders will need to be exchanged online.) Make sure you bring your invoice, otherwise your item can only be exchanged for something of equal value at the current selling cost of the item, which may be reduced from what you originally paid for it. The store will not refund the shipping charges you incurred.
