MCU Star Comments On Young Avengers Tease & Future Movie Hopes

Summary

  • Kathryn Newton is open to the idea of joining a Young Avengers project and wants Cassie Lang to grow with her audience.
  • The Marvels teased the formation of the Young Avengers in the MCU.
  • The release date and format of a Young Avengers project are still unclear, but it is expected to happen in the near future.

MCU newcomer Kathryn Newton has commented on her potential future as a member of Marvel Studios’ Young Avengers. Newton appeared as a grown-up Cassie Lang, Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang’s daughter, in 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, after Abby Ryder Fortson played the MCU character as a child in Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Emma Fuhrmann briefly portrayed Cassie after Avengers: Endgame’s time-jump. Kathryn Newton’s version of Cassie Lang finally suited up in her own superhero costume, as Stature or Stinger, fighting Kang the Conqueror alongside her father and Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne in the Quantum Realm.

While Cassie Lang’s future in the MCU was left unclear after Quantumania, 2023’s The Marvels saw Kamala Khan refer to Ant-Man’s daughter when proposing that she and Kate Bishop build their own superhero team. This tease to the MCU’s Young Avengers has been a long time coming, and Kathryn Newton has revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that she “heard through the Quantum Realm birdies” that she’d be mentioned in The Marvels. Newton noted that she’d jump at the opportunity to work with Marvel Studios again, particularly in a Young Avengers project, as she wants Cassie to “grow with [her] audience.”

I did! I heard through the Quantum Realm birdies. I heard that there was a cool tag, and I was pretty excited to see that and hear that. In the Marvel universe, you hope for that. You hope to be. My whole thing is that I grew up watching Iron Man, and I feel like I grew with that character. So my hope for Cassie Lang has always been to grow with my audience, be it the people who are my age and saw [Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania], or the people who are just starting to watch Marvel movies at a young age. I saw one when I was a little young, but I still love those movies. So if I get an opportunity to continue the story, then that would be so cool to be a part of a generation that’s growing up with a film. It’s such a big part of my life. But they don’t really tell you. They tell you an overall, but I don’t take anything for granted. I am just trying to get through the day. Let’s finish one movie and then let’s continue. But I would very much also jump at the opportunity to work with Marvel Studios again.

When Could The MCU’s Young Avengers Release?

Marvel Studios has introduced a huge number of young superheroes throughout the MCU’s Phases 4 and 5, with them often carrying on the legacy of original Avengers and heroes that came before. This spurred major theories that the Young Avengers would soon be forming, and while Marvel Studios stayed mum, The Marvels has now confirmed that the Young Avengers are a real prospect in the MCU’s future. As well as Kamala Khan, Kate Bishop and Cassie Lang, the Young Avengers team could include the likes of Billy and Tommy Maximoff, Riri Williams’ Ironheart, America Chavez and the Hulk’s son, Skaar.

Despite several members of the Young Avengers being introduced to the MCU, it’s still unclear exactly when a Young Avengers project could release, and what form this could take. There are many empty release slots available in 2026 and 2027, so it’s possible that a Young Avengers feature film could premiere in the MCU’s Phase 6. It’s also possible that Marvel Studios could bring the Young Avengers together in a Disney+ series, which would give the team time to explore their dynamic. 2025 is a jam-packed year for Marvel Studios, but the Young Avengers will surely be coming together soon.
